April Scholarship Opportunities:


Pardee & Curtin (Ellsworth F. Curtin) Scholarship – This scholarship is open to any graduating senior who plans on attending WVU. This is a renewable scholarship – up to four years for a total of $20,000.  The recipient may receive $5000 each year ($2500 per semester).

 Award: $20,000 over four years

Stephen MullensThis scholarship is open to any graduating senior.  Must have a 3.0 GPA.  Preference will be given to students who most likely will not qualify for an academic based scholarship from other sources.  Student must show a desire to give back to Webster County after graduation.  Will be enrolled full time in a technical, community or baccalaureate institution.

Deadline: April 12, 2019

Award: $500 – Renewable scholarship

 Barger Scholarship Open to any graduating senior attending a 2 or 4 yr school.  Applicants must have a 2.5 GPA, and intends on majoring in a STEM discipline.  Must demonstrate fulfillment in a STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts or math).  This is to be accomplished through the submission of a visual or performing art project in a format of their choice (such as, video, portfolio, poem, music cd, etc.), that either utilizes STEM concepts or incorporates STEM principles as its subject matter.  A statement explaining the connection between STEM and Arts in the demonstration submitted must be included.  Involvement in arts component may be acquired through school or extracurricular participation.  Documentation regarding enrollment in at least 1 advanced placement STEM course; should none be available a statement from the principal or school counselor must be submitted.

A reference letter from the student’s art teacher must be submitted.  This individual may be public school or private individual.

Thompson Douglas ScholarshipThis scholarship is open to any graduating senior. Must be enrolling in a four year WV College.  Will be based upon academic merit, need, and leadership.

 James and Freda Nichols Scholarship – Open to any graduating senior attending any 2-4 year college program or technical school.

 Award: $1000.00 or two $500.00

 Jim Bailey Scholarship – This scholarship is open to all graduating seniors who are planning on enrolling in a one – two year vocational or technical school, and have a GPA of 2.5 or higher.

 Award: $600

United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth CircuitThis scholarship is open to any student in grades 9-12th.  The prompt for the 2019 Essay Contest is “How has the right to freedom of speech established for public school students in the Supreme Court case of Tinker v. Des Moines evolved in the 50 years since it was decided?”  The essay is limited to 1000 words.  Citations should be placed in footnotes, endnotes, or bibliographies and excluded from the word count.  Submit your essay as a Microsoft Word or Adobe Acrobat PDF document.  DO NOT INCLUDE YOUR NAME ON YOUR ESSAY.

 Jeannie T. Potter Scholarship – This scholarship is open to all graduating seniors who are planning on enrolling in a WV community college, technical school, or four year college.  Preference is given to students enrolling in a two year program or technical program.

 Award: $1500 (renewable for a total of 2yrs – total of $3000)

New River 2018 Presidential Scholarship ApplicationThis scholarship is open to any graduating senior who plans on attending New River Community and Technical College. The scholarship is designed to provide full in-state tuition for up to four consecutive semesters beginning with fall.  To apply must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.

Anita Hess-Pugh Future Educator ScholarshipThis scholarship is open to all graduating seniors planning to apply or have been accepted into a teacher preparation program or related student support program at a WV college/university.  Preference will be given to students who have completed the Careers in Education program and/or are members of Educators Rising at WCHS and /or have demonstrated financial need.  All applicants must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.

May Scholarship Opportunities:

WVU CPHYS Scholarship - West Virginia University (WVU) and the WVU Center for Excellence in STEM Education announce a new scholarship opportunity for West Virginia high school students planning on attending WVU. The (Computational Physics) CPHYS scholarship can provide support up to $10,000 per year for students attending WVU and majoring in physics. A physics degree provides excellent training in computation skills while allowing the student to use those skills to better understand the universe. WVU physicists use computation to understand distant stars (pulsars), to model gravitational waves, to understand plasmas, and to design new electronic devices. About one-third of all physics graduates work in the computer industry. Both high school students and students at WVU can apply for the scholarship. It can be renewed for four years.

 Buster Bynum Education Scholarship – Students parent/guardian must be an active employee in public school transportation during the past three years.  This includes bus drivers, aides, monitors, mechanics, parts clerks, foremen, managers, trainers, supervisors, directors, and inspectors that work in public education.

 Rover Scholarship – Students must submit a 400-500 word essay, answering the following question: “Has technology caused you to feel more included in your community, or excluded?

Glade Lodge #205 Knights of Pythias Scholarship – Open to any graduating senior attending any 2-4 year college program or technical school.  College bound students must submit an essay of at least 300 words on one of the following topics: friendship, courage, or benevolence.  Students planning on attending in a technical program must submit pictures and a brief description of a project that they have completed while in in high school.

Award: Scholarship will be given to no more than two students in the amount ranging from $100-$500.

 Dr. Mabel Nichols Scholarship – Open to any graduating senior who will be attending Glenville State College.

  American Legion Roscoe Miller Post #62 – This scholarship is open to any graduating senior attending any college, university, or technical school.  Students must complete application and write an essay in 300 words less on the following topic: What makes you most proud to be an American Citizen?

SunTrust Off to College Scholarship Sweepstakes – SunTrust is offering a chance to win a $500.00 scholarship to help cover education expenses.  30 winners will be chosen at random.  Two $500 scholarship winners will be randomly chosen every two weeks beginning on or about October 29, 2018 until May 13, 2019.
