Jerry Dean
Mr. Dean is an WCHS alumnus, graduating in 1989. He is married to Mrs. Cherylene Dean, who is also a WCBOE employee. Mr. Dean has one daughter, Chelsea who recently graduated from WVU. Mr. Dean has worked with CPS and the DHHR before earning his Masters in Student Support from Marshall University. His hobbies include fishing and camping.
Venus Farlow is a Counselor at Webster County High School . She graduated from Lee University with a Bachelor ‘s degree in Christian Ministry Leadership that has an emphasis in Counseling. Then, she completed her Master’s degree in School Counseling at Marshall University. While this degree provides an education in how to be a school counselor, it also delivered many classes on mental health counseling. Thus, providing a more comprehensive program that offers students assistance in multiple areas of their student life. After graduation, Mrs. Farlow passed the national board exam for certified counselors and is also a nationally certified counselor.
Since 1998, she has enjoyed working with youth and being part of a worship team at churches she attended. She has also been a part of WCHS’s theater department since 2020. She describes theater as her “happy place.”
While her career started in elementary school counseling, she is very happy at the Home of the Highlanders. Work is only work if you do not love what you are doing, and she truly loves what she is doing.

Half of all credits earned must come from a WV school
Student must have a 3.0 GPA in their core classes and overall
ACT -21 composite and 19 in each category
SAT - composite 1080; math 510, and reading 520
